Popular Google Doodle Games: Here are The Best Ones to Play Today

Rahul Sharma Debt Connect in Manchester, UK,

While the nation remains at home - Google Doodle is one way to play a range of games online to help pass the time.

Today’s game (April 28) allows players to take part in cricket.

The game – which first appeared in 2017 – is basic stuff; you essentially click your mouse to take a swing of your bat, while the rest of the team does everything else for you.

But Google has given us some genuinely entertaining ‘games’ in the past. Sure, they might not match up to the blockbuster scale you might see on consoles, but they’re great at whiling away a few minutes of boredom.

Heck, older playable Doodles are even making a comeback in the midst of coronavirus.

Google’s own archive allows you to go back and relive any Doodle from history, and as people’s tedium reaches new levels, they’re digging out the ‘classics’.

Race Across The World Victors Pledge Winnings to Help Street Children

Sharing by Rahul Sharma from Manchester UK,

The winners of the BBC's Race Across the World have pledged £10,000 to help the street children they came across as they travelled through South America.

On Sunday, viewers saw uncle and nephew Emon and Jamiul Choudhury win the 54-day race by just 20 seconds.

They pipped husband and wife Rob and Jen in a nailbiting finish.

Emon and Jamiul immediately promised half of the £20,000 prize to charities after seeing children sleeping rough in Sao Paulo, Brazil.

They have since also reportedly decided to give £5,000 to Emon's family orphanage in Bangladesh.

"We decided at Sao Paulo that if we were to win, we'd donate at least half of the money to help the kids of Sao Paulo and of Brazil," Emon told BBC Breakfast on Monday.

Corona-Virus: Furloughed Workers to be Encouraged to Take Fruit Picking Jobs to Help UK Harvest

Some of the millions of British workers furloughed during the coronavirus lockdown will be encouraged to take a second job picking fruit and vegetables, the government has said.

Giving the daily COVID-19 briefing, Environment Secretary George Eustice said only a third of the migrant labour needed to help carry out such tasks was in the country.

Although the international food chain was continuing to "work well", Mr Eustice said he expected there would be a need to recruit staff in the UK to harvest crops in the coming weeks.

"We're also acutely aware that we're about to start the British season in fresh produce, in soft fruits and salads.

"We estimate that probably only about a third of the migrant labour that would normally come to the UK is here, and was probably here before lockdown.

"We are working with industry to identify an approach that will encourage those millions of furloughed workers in some cases to consider taking a second job, helping get the harvest in June."

Prince Charles Releases Photo of Him Hugging Prince Louis to Mark Grandson's Birthday

Sharing by Rahul Sharma from Manchester UK,

The Prince of Wales has released a photograph of him hugging Prince Louis as he marked his grandson's second birthday.

The black and white image, taken by the child's mother the Duchess of Cambridge, was posted on Prince Charles' official Twitter account with the message: "A very Happy Birthday to Prince Louis, who turns two today."

"The young Prince enjoys a hug from his Grandfather, The Prince of Wales."

It is not known when and where the picture was taken.

Charles has been staying at his Scottish home of Birkhall for much of the coronavirus lockdown, where he has recovered from COVID-19.

And the framed image was among several photos that could be seen behind him when earlier this month he opened London's NHS Nightingale Hospital via video link.

A series of pictures have also been released by the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge to mark their son's birthday, showing the young prince making a rainbow tribute poster and the couple joking about "Instagram v Reality".

Corona-Virus: £58m EuroMillions Winner's Social Distancing Celebrations

Sharing by Rahul Sharma from Manchester UK,

A man who scooped a £58m lottery win celebrated by having a beer with his brothers - at a 2m (6ft 6in) distance.

Ryan Hoyle, 38, said he was "shaking" when he got an email informing him he had become a multi-millionaire in Friday's EuroMillions draw.

He drove to his parents' house, passing his phone through the window for them to "double-check" his numbers.

After confirming the eight-figure bonanza, he enjoyed a drink in the sunshine with his siblings.
Mr Hoyle, of Rochdale, Greater Manchester, said he first thought he had won £2.30 when he saw an email from the National Lottery on Saturday.

'It was real'

When he read the message, he said it "looked like a lot of numbers... I couldn't believe what my eyes were seeing".

He said he was "shaking and really needed a second opinion so... drove round to mum and dad's house".

"I kept a safe distance outside and passed the phone through the window for them to double-check for me."

"It was real - I had won £58m."

US Monitoring Intelligence That North Korean Leader is in Grave Danger After Surgery

Sharing by Rahul Sharma from Manchester UK,

The US is monitoring intelligence that suggests North Korea's leader, Kim Jong Un, is in grave danger after undergoing a previous surgery, according to a US official with direct knowledge.

A second source familiar with the intelligence told CNN that the US has been closely monitoring reports on Kim's health.

Kim recently missed the celebration of his grandfather's birthday on April 15, which raised speculation about his well-being. He had been seen four days before that at a government meeting.

Another US official told CNN Monday that the concerns about Kim's health are credible but the severity is hard to assess.

National Security Adviser Robert O'Brien said the US is "keeping a close eye" on reports about Kim's health.

"We're monitoring these reports very closely," O'Brien said during an interview with Fox News Tuesday. "As you know, North Korea is a very closed society," he said.

North Korean Leader Kim Jong-un Has Heart Surgery – Report

Sharing by Rahul Sharma from Manchester UK,

Kim Jong-un underwent heart surgery earlier this month and is recovering at his private villa, according to a South Korean report, with US media citing officials as saying the North Korean leader was in “grave danger” after the procedure.

If accurate, the surgery claim, made by the Daily NK website, would explain Kim’s absence from an event to mark the anniversary of the birth of his grandfather – and the country’s founder – Kim Il-sung.

Kim Jong-un underwent the procedure at a hospital in the county of Hyangsan on the country’s east coast on 12 April, according to the Seoul-based Daily NK, which is run mostly by North Korean defectors.

The 36-year-old was continuing to receive treatment at a villa at the Mount Kumgang resort, the website added.

The report cited unnamed sources, and there has been no official comment from North Korean state media. South Korea’s unification ministry, which handles cross-border issues, has declined to comment on the report.

Nova Scotia Shooting: Shock and Surprise at Killings by Denturist

Sharing by Rahul Sharma from Manchester UK,

Residents in Nova Scotia are struggling for answers after a lone shooter killed 16 people, including a police officer, in the deadliest rampage in modern Canadian history.

Royal Canadian Mounted Police said on Sunday that Gabriel Wortman, a 51-year-old denturist, had been taken into custody but was later pronounced dead following a standoff at a gas station near the capital of Halifax.

It was not clear how Wortman died but police later issued a statement saying that Nova Scotia’s serious incident response team said it was investigating an event in which RCMP officers “discharg[ed] their firearms” at a suspect.

According to property records, Wortman owned and operated a denture clinic in the city of Dartmouth, across the water from Halifax. In 2014, he appeared in local media after donating dentures to a cancer survivor.

Neighbours of Wortman, who owned three properties in Portapique, a small coastal community where the rampage appears to have begun on Saturday night, were shocked by the news.

Highways Workers Have Painted 'Thank You NHS' Road Markings Outside Tameside Hospital

Sharing by Rahul Sharma from Manchester UK,

Highways workers have painted special 'thank you NHS' road markings outside Tameside Hospital which they hope will 'bring a smile' to heroic health staff.

The council's highways team have put the new markings - including rainbows - on Fountain Street and Mellor Road in Ashton where Tameside Hospital staff enter the grounds.

The message of support was created as part of work to build a temporary 10-bed ward to meet increasing demand during the coronavirus pandemic.

The prefabricated unit is located opposite Werneth House and close to the emergency department, as a 'precautionary measure'.

During the build the council's operations and neighbourhoods team cut back trees and made sure access was possible, and road-workers took the opportunity to pay thanks to NHS workers on behalf of the borough.

Apple Launches Smaller, Cheaper iPhone

Sharing by Rahul Sharma from Manchester UK,

Apple has launched a cheaper version of its iPhone SE as it attempts to continue normal business despite the coronavirus pandemic.

The second-generation SE resembles Apple’s previous design used for its smartphones between 2014 and 2017, complete with the traditional touch ID home button instead of face recognition. It costs from £419 in the UK and $399 in the US.

The new phone is a follow-up to the entry-level SE from 2016, which reused the design of the iPhone 5S. The new SE replaces 2017’s iPhone 8, which was until recently the cheapest iPhone on sale, costing £479 in the UK and $449 in the US.

The second-generation SE has a 4.7in retina HD LCD screen, making it one of the few smaller smartphones available. The back is glass and it has aluminium sides like the iPhone 8. It is water-resistant to IP67 standards – one-metre depths for up to 30 minutes – and has Qi wireless charging.

The new 4G phone also has the A13 Bionic chip, matching that in the iPhone 11 line, meaning the technology is not dated compared with the other current iPhones.

It has a single 12-megapixel camera on the back, supporting 4K video, and a seven-megapixel selfie camera on the front. It comes with at least 64GB of storage, with 128GB and 256GB options, and is available in black, white or red. It will launch for pre-order from 1pm on Friday and ships on 24 April in the UK.

Donald Trump to Withdraw £400m US Funding to World Health Organisation Over its Handling of Corona-Virus Pandemic

Donald Trump is halting US funding to the World Health Organisation (WHO) over its handling of the coronavirus pandemic.

The America president said his government has deep concerns as to whether US funding has been put to the best possible use by the WHO.

During a press conference at the White House, Trump said the organisation had 'failed in its basic duty and it must be held accountable'.

He accused WHO of promoting China's 'disinformation' about the virus, saying this likely led to a wider outbreak of the virus than otherwise would have occurred.

The president added it wasn't fair for America to contribute roughly £300m to £400m ($400m to $500m) to the WHO when China had given around £33m [$42million].

It comes after the US death toll reached 25,786 with 10,834 of these in New York.

The deferral of payments is pending a review of the US government's warnings about the coronavirus and China.

Trump said the outbreak would have been better contained in China and spared lives if the UN health agency had done a better job investigating reports coming out of China.

China has approved early-stage human tests for two experimental vaccines to combat the new coronavirus as it battles to contain imported cases, especially from neighbouring Russia, the new “front line” in the war on COVID-19.

Russia has become China’s largest source of imported cases, with a total of 409 infections originating in the country, and Chinese citizens should stay put and not return home, the state-owned Global Times said in an editorial.

“Russia is the latest example of a failure to control imported cases and can serve as a warning to others,” said the paper, which is run by the Communist Party’s People’s Daily.

“The Chinese people have watched Russia become a severely affected country... This should sound the alarm: China must strictly prevent the inflow of cases and avoid a second outbreak.”

China’s northeastern border province of Heilongjiang saw 79 new cases of imported coronavirus cases on Monday. All the new cases were Chinese citizens travelling back into the country from Russia, state media said on Tuesday. They formed the bulk of new cases on the Chinese mainland, which stood at 89.

British motor racing legend Sir Stirling Moss has died at the age of 90 following a long illness.

He is widely regarded as one of the greatest Formula 1 drivers of all time, even though he did not win the World Championship.

Moss retired from public life in January 2018 because of ongoing health problems.

"It was one lap too many, he just closed his eyes," said his wife Lady Moss.

Moss previously spent 134 days in hospital after suffering a chest infection while on holiday in Singapore in December 2016.

Moss' former team Mercedes said motorsport had "lost not only a true icon and a legend, but a gentleman", while 1996 F1 champion Damon Hill said Moss "launched all the other careers of British racing drivers who went on to become world champions".

The cabinet minister Robert Jenrick is facing questions after travelling to visit his parents at the weekend, despite repeatedly urging the public to stay at home during the lockdown to curb the spread of coronavirus.

The Guardian has established that the housing, communities and local government secretary – who has made media appearances urging people to save lives by remaining in their properties even if tempted to see loved ones – went to see his parents at their Shropshire home, 40 miles by road from his own.

A witness has told the Guardian they saw Jenrick, 38, visiting the property at the weekend.

A source close to the cabinet minister admitted that he had made the journey during lockdown conditions, but defended the trip by saying he dropped off food and medication, and did not enter the house. Jenrick later confirmed this in a tweet in which he said his parents were both self-isolating, because of age and his father’s medical condition, and he had respected social distancing rules.

Government instructions say: “You should not be visiting family members who do not live in your home.” The only exception is if they need help, such as having shopping or medication dropped off.

The Guardian understands that the local community has been supporting Jenrick’s parents by delivering groceries in recent weeks. This was not denied, though the source said Jenrick had collected and delivered medication for his parents, too.

The Cluster Effect: How Social Gatherings Were Rocket Fuel for Corona-Virus

On 15 February, a merry crowd wearing clown wigs and jester hats gathered in the town hall of Gangelt, a small western German municipality nestled by the Dutch border, to ring in the peak of the carnival season.

Beer and wine flowed aplenty as approximately 350 adults in fancy dress locked arms on long wooden benches and swayed to the rhythm of music provided by a live band.

During an interval in the programme, guests got up to mingle with friends and relatives at other tables, greeting each other as Rhineland tradition commands, with a Bützchen, or peck on the cheek.
A carnival committee of 11 men in red-and-white uniforms compered the four-hour event and gave speeches on topical issues. Covid-19, the virus that had been detected on German soil for the first time two weeks earlier, was not among them.

Yet the coronavirus is the single reason why the carnival session in Gangelt is now drawing close attention from scientists from around the world: seven people who walked out of the event later tested positive for the virus. A 47-year-old man who performed in the “male ballet” at the Gangelt carnival was the first person in Germany admitted to intensive care with the infection.

Manchester United restored some sense of normality earlier this week when they completed a deal to sign Radek Vitek.

The 16-year-old goalkeeper has been signed on scholarship terms as United continue to build for the long-term future of the club, but it is all rather odd.

Vitek has shone while developing at Czech side Sigma Olomouc but he has an uphill struggle on his hands if he is to make a lasting impression at Old Trafford.

The youngster is the second goalkeeper to sign since the turn of the year after Nathan Bishop in the January transfer window, and it seems United's stockpiling goes far beyond toilet rolls and tins of beans.

Bishop was brought in for first-team cover following injuries to both Lee Grant and Matej Kovar, but following rehabilitation even Grant has penned a new deal at the club.

It means United have a trio of goalkeepers battling just to be third-choice at the club yet most alarming is the fact there are still another three other shot-stoppers ahead of them.

Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola's mother, Dolors Sala Carrio, has died aged 82 in Barcelona after contracting coronavirus.

"Everyone associated with the club sends their most heartfelt sympathy at this most distressing time to Pep, his family and all their friends," said Manchester City on social media.

Monday's increase of 637 coronavirus deaths means 13,055 have died in Spain.

Last month, Guardiola donated 1m euros (£920,000) to help fight the outbreak.

The money will be used to purchase medical equipment and protective material for staff involved in treating those admitted to hospital.

Barcelona is in Catalonia, which is one of the areas in Spain with the most concentrated number of cases.

Manchester United posted on social media to say the club was "saddened to hear this terrible news", adding: "We send our heartfelt condolences to Pep and his family."

Boris Johnson has been admitted to hospital due to coronavirus after suffering 10 days of symptoms including a high fever, bringing doubts about his capability to lead the response to the pandemic despite No 10 insisting it was purely precautionary.

Johnson was taken to an unnamed London hospital on Sunday after days of persistent symptoms, during which time he has been self-isolating. Last week No 10 had denied the prime minister was more seriously ill than claimed.

A Downing Street spokesperson said: “On the advice of his doctor, the prime minister has tonight been admitted to hospital for tests. This is a precautionary step, as the prime minister continues to have persistent symptoms of coronavirus 10 days after testing positive for the virus.” The spokesperson said Johnson would stay in hospital “as long as needed”.

Officials were keen to stress that this was not an emergency admission, and that Johnson will remain in charge of government, and will be in regular touch with colleagues and civil servants.

Eddie Large Obituary

The beaming, ebullient, fast-talking comedian and impressionist Eddie Large, who has died aged 78, having contracted Covid-19 while being treated for heart failure, was half of a double-act that partially eclipsed Morecambe and Wise on British television in the late 1970s and early 80s.

After years of success with the BBC had turned them into a national institution, Eric Morecambe and Ernie Wise were enticed to ITV in 1978, but through a combination of inferior scripts and Morecambe’s deteriorating health the switch proved to be a disappointment, and marked the decline of Britain’s top double-act.

Meanwhile, the BBC groomed Little and Large to take their place in 11 series of extremely popular sketch/standup shows, which lasted from 1977 until 1991 and became a staple of Saturday evenings, attracting audiences of up to 10 million at their peak.

While subtlety was hardly the forte of Little and Large, the basis of their comic relationship was nevertheless intriguing. The Syd Little half of the act was a bespectacled, timid, feeble-voiced singer and guitarist with “loser” written all over him. Large believed – or pretended to believe, for his own and the audience’s amusement – that Little was possessed of immense talent and poised on the brink of superstardom. There have been far worse comic dynamics than a hectoring, deluded hustler and the dim-witted and ill-at-ease target of his attentions.

McDonald's is Working to Secure Masks for Some Workers Following Employee Protests Over Anti-Mask Policies

rahul sharma manchester

Sharing by Rahul Sharma from Manchester UK,

https://www.messengernewspapers.co.uk/news/7226047.altrincham-grammar-school-for-boys/

After previously discouraging workers from wearing masks at work, McDonald's is working to source masks for certain employees.

David Tovar, the vice president of US communications at McDonald's, told Business Insider that while the company wants N95 masks to reach healthcare workers, it is working to secure other types of masks for employees at the fast-food chain.

"The CDC guidelines ... are saying that they are not preventative in terms of a COVID-19," Tovar said. "But we also know that there is a comfort that it provides ... to employees and to customers. So we want to try and accommodate them if possible."

Tovar said that once there is supply, it will be focused on hot spots such as New York City, Seattle, and San Francisco. The masks will become available to other locations as needed.

As the fast-food giant works to obtain masks amid a global shortage, Tovar says McDonald's will work on a case-by-case basis to determine whether employees can wear homemade masks to work.

Employees will now be able to wear gloves if it makes them more comfortable at work, as McDonald's has a significant supply. However, Tovar says it will be emphasized that wearing gloves will not replace hand washing and other safety measures.
