Manchester United restored some sense of normality earlier
this week when they completed a deal to sign Radek Vitek.
The 16-year-old goalkeeper has been signed on scholarship
terms as United continue to build for the long-term future of the club, but it
is all rather odd.
Vitek has shone while developing at Czech side Sigma Olomouc
but he has an uphill struggle on his hands if he is to make a lasting
impression at Old Trafford.
The youngster is the second goalkeeper to sign since the
turn of the year after Nathan Bishop in the January transfer window, and it
seems United's stockpiling goes far beyond toilet rolls and tins of beans.
Bishop was brought in for first-team cover following
injuries to both Lee Grant and Matej Kovar, but following rehabilitation even
Grant has penned a new deal at the club.
It means United have a trio of goalkeepers battling just to
be third-choice at the club yet most alarming is the fact there are still
another three other shot-stoppers ahead of them.
