'Fix Your Bike' Vouchers Launch, as Cycling to Be Prescribed on NHS

RAHUL SHARMA DEBT CONNECT IN MANCHESTER, UK,

A government scheme offering £50 bike repair vouchers will launch in England on Tuesday as part of plans to boost cycling and walking.

An initial 50,000 vouchers will be made available online later in the day on a first-come, first-served basis.

The prime minister also announced that access to bikes will be available on the NHS as part of the strategy.

But Labour said many of the government's proposals were taking too long to come into effect.

It comes after the government launched its obesity strategy on Monday.

GPs in areas of England with poor health will be encouraged to prescribe cycling, with patients able to access bikes through their local surgery.

The idea is that GP surgeries will have a stock of bicycles to lend, with training, access to cycling groups and peer support.

In some cases, if they used them enough, patients would be allowed to keep them.

Recent Public Health England research found that being overweight or obese puts people at greater risk of serious illness or death from Covid-19.

Government statistics showed nearly 8% of critically ill patients in intensive care units with the virus have been morbidly obese, compared with 2.9% of the general population.

Prime Minister Boris Johnson said cycling and walking have "a huge role to play" in tackling health and environmental challenges.

"But to build a healthier, more active nation, we need the right infrastructure, training and support in place to give people the confidence to travel on two wheels," he said.

"That's why now is the time to shift gears and press ahead with our biggest and boldest plans yet to boost active travel - so that everyone can feel the transformative benefits of cycling."

Amazon Takes on Supermarkets With Free Food Delivery

RAHUL SHARMA DEBT CONNECT IN MANCHESTER, UK,

Amazon is ramping up its online grocery service with the aim of serving millions of shoppers across the UK by the end of 2020.

Online food sales have almost doubled during the pandemic with grocers struggling to keep up with demand.

Amazon is now after a bigger slice of this fast-growing market, which analysts say could increase pressure on rivals such as Ocado.

"It's extremely significant" says retail analyst, Richard Hyman.

"[Amazon] can be compelling, disruptive and it's a business with gigantic ambitions."

Amazon Fresh offers same or next-day grocery deliveries for customers in London and the Home Counties.

Shoppers have to subscribe to Amazon Prime to get it and users currently have to pay an additional monthly fee or a delivery charge per order. It has about 10,000 products including fresh, chilled and frozen food.

From Tuesday, this service will now be a free benefit to subscribers in these areas on orders above £40.

About 40 postcodes in Surrey will also have access to a faster offer, with a possible same-day delivery before midnight if you order by 21:00.

Amazon says it will roll out this quicker and unlimited free delivery grocery service to "multiple cities" by the end of this year. It's an ambitious move.

Anger Over Reimposing Quarantine for Travellers From Spain

RAHUL SHARMA DEBT CONNECT IN MANCHESTER, UK,

FOREIGN Secretary Dominic Raab said the UK Government will not apologise for reimposing strict quarantine rules at short notice on travellers returning from Spain.

Ministers announced on Saturday that holidaymakers who had not returned from Spain and its islands by midnight would be forced to quarantine for 14 days after Covid-19 second wave fears saw the European country struck off the UK’s safe list.

The sudden timing of the announcement was criticised by the travel sector and consumer rights groups but Raab said the Government was right to take “swift” action.

The quick turnaround caught out even Transport Secretary Grant Shapps, who is currently in Spain for his summer break and will join thousands of others in being forced to self-isolate for a fortnight on his return to Britain.

The decision was taken to suspend the so-called travel corridor with the UK’s most popular holiday destination after Spain recorded more than 900 fresh daily Covid-19 cases for two days running.

Raab told Sky News’ Sophy Ridge On Sunday programme: “The data we got was on the Friday, it showed a big jump right across mainland Spain. That was then assessed yesterday afternoon and we took the decision as swiftly as we could.

“And we can’t make apologies for doing so.

“We must be able to take swift, decisive action, particularly in relation to localised, or internationally in relation to Spain or a particular country, where we see we must take action.

NHS Flu Vaccination to be Extended to These Age Groups

RAHUL SHARMA DEBT CONNECT IN MANCHESTER, UK,

The NHS flu vaccination is set to be available to more people.

The government is aiming to double its winter flu vaccination programme in England to 30 million people this year.

It comes as experts are concerned about the impact of a double whammy of coronavirus cases and seasonal flu potentially overwhelming the NHS.

There are also worries that people could suffer both seasonal flu and Covid-19 at the same time.

Currently, the free jab against seasonal flu is for people aged 65 and over, pregnant women, people with certain conditions such as kidney disease, asthma or heart disease and carers or those in care homes.

Frontline health and social care workers are also eligible to receive the flu vaccine as well as children over six months with a long-term health condition, those aged two and three and those in primary school.

The government has now announced that this will be extended to those aged 50 and over and children who are aged 11 by the end of August this year (the first year of secondary school).

They will be vaccinated later in the year with the aim that all those eligible will have had their vaccine by Christmas.

Anyone living in a household with somebody on the NHS shielded patient list for Covid-19 will also be eligible for a free jab.

Health secretary Matt Hancock said: "It's mission critical that we pull out all the stops to get ready for winter, and the Prime Minister has already announced £3 billion to protect the NHS.

Kim Kardashian Breaks Silence on Kanye West’s Behaviour and Mental Health: ‘The Family is Powerless’

RAHUL SHARMA DEBT CONNECT IN MANCHESTER, UK,

Kim Kardashian has broken her silence on her husband Kanye West’s behaviour, acknowledging that he is having a bipolar episode.

The 39-year-old has remained quiet since Kanye’s presidential campaign launch, during which he claimed that Kim considered an abortion while pregnant with her daughter North.

Since then, the 43-year-old has tweeted that he’s been trying to divorce Kim, and called his mother-in-law Kris Jenner a white supremacist.

Kim wrote on her Instagram stories: ‘As many of you know, Kanye has bipolar disorder. Anyone who has this or has a loved one in their life who does, knows how complicated and painful it is to understand. I’ve never spoken publicly about how this has affected us at home because I am very protective of our children and Kanye’s right to privacy. But today, I feel like I should comment on it because of the stigma and misconceptions about mental health.

‘Those that understand mental illness or even compulsive behaviour know that the family is powerless unless the member is a minor. People who are unaware or far removed from this experience can be judgemental and not understand that the individual themselves have to engage in the process of getting help no matter how hard family and friends try.

‘I understand Kanye is subject to criticism because he is a public figure and his actions at times can cause strong opinions and emotions. He is a brilliant but complicated person who on top of the pressure being being an artist and a black man, who experienced the painful loss of his mother, and has to deal with the pressure and isolation that is heightened by his bi-polar disorder.

Manchester Music Venues Deaf Institute and Gorilla Saved From Closure

RAHUL SHARMA DEBT CONNECT IN MANCHESTER, UK,

Two Manchester music venues have been saved from closure after a deal was agreed with help from gig promoters and one of the city's best-loved singers.

Mission Mars (MM), which runs Gorilla and The Deaf Institute, announced their closures on Thursday.

However, the sites have been bought by venue group Tokyo Industries (TI).

TI Founder Aaron Mellor said the group had put together "some great ideas" with SSD Concerts and The Charlatans' Tim Burgess "to help save both venues".

Burgess was one of a number of big names who took to social media after the initial closure announcement was made, stating that the venues were "the lifeblood of Manchester's vital network of venues".

He tweeted that he and the new owners would be "doing all we can to help with the next chapter".

In a joint statement, the two firms said terms had been agreed to save all jobs and continue operating the sites "in much the same way as they have done in the past".

The TI founder said it was "vital venues like Gorilla and The Deaf Institute are kept alive, [as] the cultural fabric of our city centres depends venues like these".

"Over the weekend, we have put together some great ideas with SSD Concerts and Tim Burgess to help save both venues and their existing operating style in a post-Covid world.

"We're not so keen on this 'new' normal and want to keep the 'old' normal alive for when we all get through this."

'Brave and Passionate' Clare's Law Campaigner Michael Brown Dies

RAHUL SHARMA DEBT CONNECT IN MANCHESTER, UK,

"Brave and passionate" campaigner Michael Brown, who fought for a law change in the law after his daughter was murdered by her ex, has died.

Mr Brown pushed for a legal change to give a person the "right to know" about a partner's violence past, after Clare Wood was killed in her Salford home.

Following his campaign, the Domestic Violence Disclosure Scheme, known as Clare's Law, was introduced in 2014.

The 76-year-old from Batley died on Saturday after a short illness.

Ms Wood was murdered by her ex-boyfriend George Appleton in 2009. He was found hanged in a derelict pub six days later.

The 36-year-old mother-of-one had met him on Facebook but knew nothing about his history of violence against women - he had been jailed in 2001 for breaching a restraining order on another ex-girlfriend and in 2002 for harassing another woman.

Her father Michael Brown spearheaded the campaign to allow people to obtain information about a partner's previous convictions.

In 2014, he said he was "quietly delighted" when Clare's Law came into force in England and Wales.

It was introduced in Scotland in 2016, Northern Ireland in 2018 and is now being trialled in Australia and Canada.

Who Was Dilhan Eryurt? Google Doodle Celebrates Turkish Astrophysicist and NASA Scientist

RAHUL SHARMA DEBT CONNECT IN MANCHESTER, UK,

Who was Dilhan Eryurt?
Professor Doctor Dilhan Eryurt was born November 29, 1926, in Izmir in the west of Turkey.

But she did not remain in her home city for long, moving firstly to Istanbul and then to the nation's capital of Ankara.

It was in high school there that she picked up a love for mathematics, eventually going on to study in the subject at university - only to gain an interest in astronomy.

After completing her studies, Eryurt helped open an astronomy department at Ankara University, before getting her doctorate there in 1953 after spending time at the University of Michigan.

She later had a two-year scholarship in Canada, the professor headed for the US, firstly to Indiana University, before working at Nasa's Goddard Space Flight Center in Maryland.

At the time, Eryurt was the only female astronomer working at the institution - and she made great breakthroughs in relation to the solar system's biggest star.

She learnt that the brightness of the Sun had decreased during its 4.5 billion years lifespan, meaning it was warmer and brighter in the past.

This influenced research into space flights at the time - before later receiving the Apollo Achievement Award for her work in helping to model the solar impact on the lunar environment for Apollo 11's Moon landing mission.

UK's Huawei 5G Network Ban 'Disappointing and Wrong'

RAHUL SHARMA DEBT CONNECT IN MANCHESTER, UK,

China's ambassador to the UK has called Britain's decision to ban telecoms giant Huawei from its 5G network "disappointing and wrong".

The UK government has ordered companies to strip equipment from Huawei out of the system by 2027.

It follows sanctions imposed by the US, which claims the Chinese firm poses a national security threat - something Huawei denies.

US President Trump welcomed the UK decision, calling Huawei "unsafe".

"We convinced many countries, many countries - and I did this myself for the most part - not to use Huawei because we think it's an unsafe security risk, it's a big security risk," he said.

Mr Trump made the comments as he attempted to increase pressure on Beijing by announcing an executive order ending preferential treatment for Hong Kong in response to a new security law brought in by China.

In response to the 5G network ban, Chinese ambassador Liu Xiaoming questioned whether the UK can provide a "fair" business environment for foreign firms.

"Disappointing and wrong decision by the UK on Huawei," he tweeted.

"It has become questionable whether the UK can provide an open, fair and non-discriminatory business environment for companies from other countries."

Huawei's chief security officer in the US, Andy Purdy, said the move was "very bad news for Huawei" but that the UK would suffer an "even greater negative impact" both financially and on the "equality of service between rural Britain and urban Britain".

He told BBC Radio 4's Today programme that Huawei hopes the UK government will reconsider its decision, and offered "additional information" to give ministers "the level of confidence that has been shaken" by the US government's sanctions.

Johnny Depp and Amber Heard: She Was 'The Abuser', Says Depp's ex-PA

RAHUL SHARMA DEBT CONNECT IN MANCHESTER, UK,

Amber Heard was the "abuser" in her relationship with Johnny Depp, his former personal assistant has claimed.

Stephen Deuters told London's High Court that Ms Heard, 34, subjected Mr Depp, 57, to "years of abuse".

Mr Depp is suing the publisher of the Sun newspaper over an article that referred to him as a "wife beater" - but the Sun maintains it was accurate.

He denies 14 domestic violence allegations which News Group Newspapers is relying on in its defence.

Mr Deuters, now European president of Mr Depp's production company, Infinitum Nihil, said he had worked for the US actor since 2004.

In his written witness statement, he said he saw Ms Heard "on many occasions" during the period Mr Depp is alleged to have been abusive.

"At no point did Ms Heard ever mention any physical abuse and I never saw evidence of any injury to Ms Heard," he claimed.

Mr Deuters said he was "extremely surprised and outraged" when it became public that Ms Heard had filed for a temporary restraining order in 2016.

"I knew that Ms Heard was the abuser in the relationship and I was appalled that she would behave in this way," he said.

Mr Deuters said he was with the couple on a flight from Boston to Los Angeles in May 2014, when an incident is alleged to have taken place.

He claimed Ms Heard was speaking "in an increasingly aggressive manner" to Mr Depp, who "did not engage with the abuse he was receiving".

Mr Deuters said he "could not hear the specifics" because he had headphones on, but "could see her gesticulating".

He said the actor "made a playful attempt to tap her on the bottom", adding that he did not believe that Mr Depp made contact with her.

"Ms Heard took great offence at what was clearly a harmless gesture and increased her abuse of Mr Depp in an extremely unpleasant manner," he said.

Mr Deuters said that he and Mr Depp's former private security guard decided to intervene and Mr Depp spent the rest of the flight in the bathroom.

"This was a common theme on the multiple times when Mr Depp was abused by Ms Heard - he would take himself away from the situation, often to a bathroom, and lock himself out of harm's way," he said.

Mr Deuters said that the day after the flight, Mr Depp asked him to "mollify" Ms Heard and "to say whatever was needed to try and placate her".

"Given Ms Heard's extremely volatile nature, I thought it best to try to engage with her on her own terms and simply apologise for what she was alleging had happened; hence my use of the word 'kicked', which is the word which Ms Heard herself had used," he said.

"As I have made clear, Mr Depp had not kicked Ms Heard."

Mr Deuters also spoke about the couple's trip to Australia in March 2015, during which it is alleged Mr Depp assaulted Ms Heard and "completely destroyed" a house in a drink- and drug-fuelled rage, which the actor denies.

Mr Depp alleges his finger was severed by Ms Heard throwing a vodka bottle at him, which she denies.

Mr Deuters claimed that, the day after the alleged incident, Mr Depp told him and two others "he had sustained his injury when Ms Heard had thrown a bottle at him which smashed on his hand".
